Salisbury Steak

Burger Patty with Beef Gravy

Recipe by :  Ariel Jasa,  Mandaluyong City, Philippines

If you are a fan of Salisbury steak from Jollibee,  know that it is so easy to make at home.

The burger patty can be bought pre-made from the meat section of the supermarket, or some stores carry the frozen ones.

But if you want to make it from scratch, it is just as easy -- all you need is couple slices of white loaf bread soaked in milk, plus seasonings.

Why do we need a bread and milk paste, or panade? This essentially makes the burger moist and tender.

As for the gravy, it is the same as the chicken gravy, except that beef flavoring is added instead of chicken.

Also, there's the option of adding sliced button mushrooms, as this goes well with the gravy.

  • Ground Beef
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Fresh or Dried Thyme
  • Knorr Beef Cube
  • Sliced Button Mushrooms

  • White Loaf bread slices
  • Milk
  • All-purpose Flour
  • Ground Pepper

    Burger Patty
  • 2 pounds Ground Beef
  • 3 slices white loaf bread, crust removed, cubed
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 2 teaspoon each, Salt and Pepper
  • Beef Gravy
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted Butter
  • 1/4 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 2 3/4 cups Water
  • 1 piece Knorr Beef Cube
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh or Dried Thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Pepper
  • 1 small can Sliced Button Mushrooms

  • 1 Soak the loaf bread pieces in milk for 5 minutes, then wring out excess liquid.

2 Mash the softened bread into the ground beef, season with salt and pepper and form into burger patties.

3 Grill or fry the burger patties, then set aside and start cooking the gravy.

4 To make the gravy, melt the butter in a saucepan and add the flour.

5 Cook together until medium to slightly dark brown, about 5-8 minutes on low heat.

6 Add the dried thyme, ground pepper, Knorr beef cube and water.

7 Bring to a boil while mixing continuously.

8 Strain the gravy and add the button mushrooms.

9 Top the burger with the mushroom and beef gravy and serve.
